Ventura New York – The Dutch Edition Returns to NYCxDESIGN

Ventura Projects is pleased to announce the third edition of Ventura New York – The Dutch edition, taking place May 19-22, 2019 at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) during NYCxDESIGN. After successful editions in 2016 and 2017, the upcoming exhibition will present 17 designers, studios and brands with a specific focus on Dutch contemporary design.

From biotechnology to making art with food, the featured designers are living proof that Dutch Design pushes boundaries, questions status quo, and can even challenge common sense. This year, Ventura New York – The Dutch edition moves to ICFF with a 2,500 sq. ft. curated presentation to celebrate Dutch Design within the global setting of one of America’s largest furniture fairs. The concept brings together emerging designers with commercially established companies, creating a stage for Dutch designers to introduce their signature qualities, such as experimental technologies, an unconventional approach and a sense of humor, to the American market.

The exhibition showcases a range of solutions and concepts, from artistic and sustainable to technologically innovative. Creative Chef Studio, Jasper Udink ten Cate, blurs the boundaries between food, design and art. Jalila Essaïdi turns waste into textiles through a patented process called Mestic®, one of the most innovative applications of animal waste to date. Cardboard boxes become thoughtfully designed lamps in the hands of Cartoni Design. Designer Aleksandra Gacacreates architectural 3D-woven textiles that bring comfort to overly stimulated environments. Utilizing wastewater to create a textile dye, Studio Nienke Hoogvliet protests fast fashion with her Kaumera Kimono.

The Dutch edition at ICFF showcases the best of contemporary design from the Netherlands. But what is the power of Dutch design? Why does it have a universal appeal? What defines a Dutch designer?

A panel of Dutch design professionals from different design industries will discuss the unique Dutch approach and have an in-depth talk about the diversity of Dutch design and its allure worldwide.

Rebecca Thiennes, Senior Market Editor, Interior Design Magazine leads the discussion with:

Partners of Ventura New York – The Dutch Edition

Ventura New York – The Dutch edition is a continuing partnership between Organisation in Design – known for Ventura Projects, celebrated design events all around the world – and the Dutch Culture USA program of the Consulate General of the Netherlands in New York. Their shared mission to guide and support Dutch designers in establishing lasting relations with the US market resulted in this third edition. Ventura New York also features a special collaboration with the Dutch Design Foundation (DDF), organiser of the leading-edge Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven. DDF offers their support to four Dutch Design talents who focused on innovative concepts that redefine design, using new (or waste) materials and new technologies. The DDF selection at Ventura New York includes Jalila Essaidi, Studio Nienke Hoogvliet, Studio Lilian van Daal and Rick Tegelaar.
