Get an insider’s look at the High Line’s gardens during this conversation with world-renowned planting designer and the visionary behind the park’s four-season garden design, Piet Oudolf. In this year of the 15th birthday of the park, the High Line celebrates Oudolf’s unique artistry and pioneering naturalistic—or nature-inspired—approach to garden design, which were integral in translating the wild magic of the self-seeded landscape of the once-derelict railway into the public green space you see today. The conversation will delve deeper into Oudolf’s design ethos, the power of naturalistic gardens, and his experiences with the High Line’s ever-changing landscape over the last 15+ years.
Hosted by the High Line’s executive director Alan van Capelle, Oudolf will be joined in conversation by acclaimed author and photographer, Ngoc Minh Ngo, and High Line Senior Director of Horticulture, Richard Hayden.
Piet Oudolf is a Dutch garden designer, nurseryman, and author. He is a leading figure of the “New Perennial” movement–his designs and plant compositions are known for using bold drifts of herbaceous perennials and grasses, which are chosen for their four-season interest, including flower color and seed structure. Piet Oudolf’s vision and expertise continue to shape the ongoing evolution of the High Line’s landscape.
Ngoc Minh Ngo is a New York-based photographer whose work explores the intrinsic beauty of plants and nature. She is the author and photographer of New York Green: Discovering the City’s Most Treasured Parks and Gardens, part of which highlights the High Line. Her images have been published in international publications such as The World of Interiors, Architectural Digest, and T Magazine. She has also exhibited her work at the Musée Yves Saint Laurent in Marrakesh.
