“Women in New Netherland,” NNI’s 40th Annual Conference

On September 22-23, the New Netherland Institute will hold its 40th Annual Conference at the New York State Museum in Albany

Fri, Sep 22 - Sat, Sep 23  2017

On September 22-23, the New Netherland Institute (NNI) will hold its 40th Annual Conference at the New York State Museum in Albany.

The year 2017 marks the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage in New York State. The NNI would like to use this centenary and our Annual Conference to highlight the important role of women in the development of the seventeenth-century Dutch colony of New Netherland and in early New York.

In addition to the conference, NNI will host its annual dinner on Friday night at 7pm (cocktail hour at 6pm) at the Hampton Inn in downtown Albany. The dinner will feature a talk by historical artist Len Tantillo and the presentation of this year’s Hendricks Award and the Clague & Carol Van Slyke Article Prize.

NNI has also arranged a tour at Crailo State Historic Site for conference attendees. Crailo will present “Women of New Netherland,” a new tour focusing on the lives of women during the Dutch colonial period, at 2pm on Saturday, September 22nd.
