On February 27 and 28, choreography ‘ROCCO’ by Emio Greco and Pieter C. Scholten will be performed at FringeArts in Philadelphia.
In ROCCO dancers become boxers and boxers become dancers. In a boxing ring one challenges the other by striking punches, fast footwork and virtuoso tactics. The dancers represent brotherhood in all its senses: the good and the bad, devil and angel, the androgynous and the incestuous. They are Kaïn and Abel, Romulus and Remus, Laurel and Hardy. A dance performance about the physical and psychological extremes of boxer and dancer.
Since 1995 choreographer/dancer Emio Greco and choreographer/director Pieter C. Scholten have worked together in their joint search for new dance forms. For both artists the search for a new dramaturgy of the body is an important motivating factor. The dance company they founded in 1996, Emio Greco | PC, has been awarded numerous national and international prizes including the Philip Morris Arts Prize (1999), Herald Angel Award(2001), the Dioraphte Dance price for strong international potential (2011) and various VSCD Dance Awards (2007, 2010, 2011, 2012). The company has a broad international recognition and is intensively touring abroad. The work is regularly co-produced by major festivals and theaters.
